Unlike traditional braces, SureSmile clear aligners are completely invisible when worn. They're made from thin, durable, and transparent plastic materials. Each set of aligners fits perfectly over your teeth with no gaps. This means that they won’t affect your appearance or your speech.
Clear aligners like SureSmile are removable. This means that you can eat all of your favorite foods without worrying about restrictions due to braces. And since you can take our aligners out to brush and floss, it’s easier to keep your pearly whites healthy.
Overall, clear aligners tend to move teeth a bit more gently than braces. SureSmile is also free of wires, brackets, and other sharp and pointy components that can irritate your lips, tongue, or cheeks, which makes it a more comfortable treatment option overall.
In most cases, SureSmile treatment takes about a year. This means that it’s faster than braces for the majority of patients. If you’re a good candidate for both braces and SureSmile, clear aligner therapy will typically offer faster results.
Sometimes a tooth is a little misshapen or has a chip that makes you self-conscious. By shaping and contouring the tooth and using dental bonding, we can create a beautiful tooth that blends in with your surrounding teeth.
To begin, you’ll visit The Smile Centré for a consultation with our dentist in Leavenworth. She will determine if you’re a good candidate for treatment. If you are, Dr. Kirwan will take impressions and images of your mouth. You’ll be sent home, and she will work with SureSmile to build your first several sets of aligners.
In a few weeks, you’ll come back to our office to pick up your first few sets of aligners. Dr. Kirwan will provide you with instructions on how to wear them and care for them. You will need to wear your aligners for 20-22 hours per day, removing them only to eat and drink, and to brush and floss. Consistency is key, and your treatment may be delayed if you don’t wear your aligners for long enough.
About every six weeks, you’ll come into our office for a quick checkup. Dr. Kirwan will make sure that your treatment is on track, and provide you with a few more sets of SureSmile clear aligners. This same basic process will repeat until your treatment is over, which typically takes about a year.
